Oxford Falls is a suburb in northern Sydney, Australia. It's located about 20 kilometers (that's around 12 miles) north-east of the main city center. This area is part of the beautiful Northern Beaches region. Many people also call it 'The Forest' because of its natural surroundings. Oxford Falls is managed by the Northern Beaches Council, which is its local government area.

A Look Back in Time: Oxford Falls History

The land where Oxford Falls now sits has an interesting past. In 1878, a man named Alexander Bowen was given 200 acres (about 0.8 square kilometers) of land here. He decided to call his new property Bloodwood Gully.

The name Oxford Falls officially became the name of the suburb in 1902. You might notice a road called Wakehurst Parkway nearby. This road is named after John de Vere Loder, 2nd Baron Wakehurst. He was the Governor of New South Wales from 1937 to 1946.

Oxford Falls even had its own Post Office! It opened on January 2, 1924, and served the community until it closed in 1984.

Exploring Nature: Waterfalls and Parks

Oxford Falls is known for its beautiful natural features. The most famous are the Oxford Falls themselves. These are two waterfalls found on Middle Creek. This creek flows north and eventually joins Oxford Creek. Another small creek, Meandering Creek, also flows into Middle Creek.

Part of the suburb's border with Cromer is formed by Wheeler Creek. If you love nature, you'll be happy to know that Garigal National Park borders Oxford Falls to the north. This national park is a great place to explore and enjoy the outdoors.
