Nasser Shabani (Persian: ناصر شعبانی; born around 1957 – died March 13, 2020) was an Iranian general. He was a high-ranking leader in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He was known for his long military career.
Shabani's Military Journey
Shabani started his military career in 1982. This was during the Iran-Iraq War. In the same year, he helped manage a conflict known as the Amol uprising.
As the Iran-Iraq War was ending, he became a leader in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He played an important part in a military action called Operation Mersad. After the war, he wrote several books about his experiences.
In 2011, he became the head of Imam Hussein University. He also took on a role as a deputy at the Sar-Allah Headquarters.
Statements on Oil Tankers
In 2018, Shabani spoke on Iranian state television. He said that the IRGC had given orders. These orders were for Houthi forces in Yemen to attack two Saudi oil tankers. The attacks were planned for the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
His Passing
Nasser Shabani passed away on March 13, 2020. His death was caused by COVID-19.
