Natalie Tran (born 24 July 1986), also known online as communitychannel, is a famous Australian YouTuber, actress, comedian, and writer. She became well-known on YouTube for her funny videos about everyday life. She started her channel in 2006 while studying at the University of New South Wales.
From 2006 to 2016, Natalie's channel mostly featured comedy videos where she talked about things she observed. She often played all the characters herself. For many years, she was the most subscribed-to YouTuber in Australia. She was also one of the highest-earning YouTubers in the world during the late 2000s and early 2010s. Natalie stopped uploading videos regularly to YouTube in late 2016.
Besides YouTube, Natalie has also acted in movies and TV shows. She had a role in the movie Goddess (2013). She also appeared in TV shows like The Slot (2017–2018) and Mr Inbetween (2018–2021). In 2023, she became a host for The Great Australian Bake Off.

Natalie's Early Life and School
Natalie Tran was born on 24 July 1986 in Auburn, a suburb in Sydney, Australia. Her parents came to Australia from Vietnam in 1981 as refugees. They had to leave everything behind.
Natalie's mother was a lawyer and her father was a literary lecturer in Vietnam. After moving to Sydney, her mother worked for the postal service and her father became a school teacher. Natalie often says that her parents worked very hard to give her and her sister, Isabel, a good life.
Natalie grew up in Auburn and went to primary school in Lidcombe. She later attended Rosebank College and then Meriden School, an all-girls school, where she finished in 2004. She has said that she wasn't a very ambitious student in high school.
After high school, she went to the University of New South Wales. She first studied education, inspired by her father. But after her YouTube channel became popular, she changed her major and completed a degree in Digital Media. While at university, she also worked in retail stores.
Natalie's Career Journey
Starting on YouTube
Natalie posted her very first video on YouTube on September 25, 2006. At first, she made videos to respond to other videos she had watched. Soon, her channel became known for funny skits and vlogs. In these videos, she would make fun of everyday situations. She often played all the different characters herself and talked directly to the camera.
In 2007, YouTube invited Natalie to help launch YouTube Australia. One of her videos, where she defended the Australian spread Vegemite, was even shown on the TV show A Current Affair. In 2009, she was nominated for two awards at Mashable's Open Web Awards: Best YouTube Channel or Personality and Funniest YouTube Channel.
In 2010, Natalie worked with Lonely Planet to create travel videos. She shared her adventures as she traveled around the world to cities like Paris, New York City, and Buenos Aires.
YouTube Success
By 2009, Natalie Tran was the most subscribed-to YouTuber in Australia. She was also among the top 40 most subscribed-to YouTubers worldwide. In 2010, she climbed even higher, becoming the 18th most subscribed-to YouTuber globally.
That same year, she was one of the highest-earning YouTubers. She made over $101,000 from ads in just one year! By 2011, her channel had more than one million subscribers.
In 2013, she started a series on her channel called Love Conundrums, where she gave relationship advice. She later stopped this series. Natalie also appeared at YouTube FanFest Australia in 2015. In a video from 2015, she talked about how Asian people are shown in the media. In December 2015, she joined other YouTubers like Lilly Singh to promote a campaign called #GirlLove. This campaign encouraged women to support each other instead of competing.
One of her popular videos was a funny parody in April 2016. She made fun of a video where Johnny Depp and Amber Heard apologized for breaking Australian laws. Her video showed them being forced to apologize, and many people thought it was very clever.
In September 2016, her channel had about 1.43 million views per video. For her channel's ten-year anniversary, other YouTubers like The Fine Bros congratulated her. In 2017, her Valentine's Day video, where she sang to her partner playing video games, also became popular.

From 2010 to 2011, Natalie worked as a reporter in Sydney for a TV show called The Project. Her first movie role was in the 2013 romantic comedy film Goddess, where she played a character named Helen.
From 2017 to 2018, she was a regular on the sketch comedy show The Slot. She also appeared in all three seasons of the TV series Mr Inbetween. In this show, she played Jacinta, the ex-wife of the main character, Ray. Natalie was a guest on the comedy show Kinne Tonight in 2018 and returned for its second season in 2020.
In 2021, Natalie was a writer and reporter for The Weekly with Charlie Pickering. She made a guest appearance on the Netflix show Heartbreak High in 2022. She also lent her voice to characters Lulu Liu and Kevin's neighbour in the animated TV show Koala Man.
In June 2023, Natalie started co-hosting the cooking competition show The Great Australian Bake Off for its seventh season. She hosts the show with comedian Cal Wilson.
Other Projects
In 2011, after her trip with Lonely Planet, Natalie helped launch a travel app. She worked on this app with Kevin Rudd, who was Australia's Foreign Minister at the time. By 2016, Natalie and her partner were also filming corporate events.
Natalie's Personal Life
Natalie became a vegetarian in 2015, meaning she stopped eating meat. Later, she became a vegan, which means she also stopped eating all animal products like dairy and eggs.
In 2011, she started dating Rowan Jones, a producer she met while working on The Project. As of 2015, they work together as freelance videographers. Natalie is an atheist, which means she does not believe in a god or gods.
After not posting any videos since December 2016, Natalie shared in 2019 that she had stopped posting because of anxiety from her obsessive–compulsive disorder. She needed time to herself.
