What is the National Assembly?
The National Assembly is where important decisions about Kuwait are made. Think of it as a big meeting place where elected representatives discuss laws, government plans, and how the country should be run. Their job is to represent the people of Kuwait and make sure their voices are heard in the government.
How Members Are Chosen
The people who work in the National Assembly are called members, and they are chosen by the citizens of Kuwait through a process called a direct election. This means that people in Kuwait get to vote directly for the person they want to represent them.
Kuwait is divided into five special areas called electoral districts. Each of these districts chooses ten members to send to the National Assembly. So, in total, there are 50 elected members.
No Official Political Parties
One interesting thing about Kuwait's National Assembly is that there are no official political parties. In many countries, politicians belong to groups like the "Green Party" or the "Blue Party." But in Kuwait, members usually run for election as individuals, not as part of a big, organized political party. They might still work together in groups, but these groups aren't officially recognized as political parties.
