How it Works
The National Assembly is responsible for making the laws of Laos. Its members also approve the government's plans and budgets. They represent the people of Laos and work to improve the country.
Members and Elections
The National Assembly has 149 members. These members are chosen by the people of Laos in elections. They serve for a period of five years. The last election was held on March 20, 2016.
Political Parties
Laos is a one-party state. This means that one political party, the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), is the main and only legal party in the country. Most of the members in the National Assembly belong to this party. In fact, 144 out of 149 members are from the LPRP. There are also a few members, 5 of them, who are independent, meaning they don't belong to any political party.
Where They Meet
The National Assembly meets in a special building called the National Assembly Building. It is located in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. This building is where all the important discussions and decisions happen.
