The President of the National Assembly of Laos is like the main leader or 'speaker' of the country's parliament, called the National Assembly of Laos. This person is in charge of running the meetings and making sure everything follows the rules.
Before 1991, this role was a bit different. It was called the President of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly. This person was also the head of state for Laos, which means they were the official representative of the country. They also led a special group called the 'presidium' within the Supreme People's Assembly. Later, the job of 'head of state' became a separate role, the President of Laos. The role of leading the parliament then became what we now know as the President of the National Assembly.
