The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto (also known as MoMAK) is a cool art museum in Kyoto, Japan. It's a place where you can see amazing modern art from Japan and around the world.
History of MoMAK
The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, started as a smaller part of a museum in Tokyo. It was first set up in Kyoto on March 1, 1963. The building it used was an old exhibition hall that was fixed up for the museum.
A few years later, on June 1, 1967, it officially became the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. Later, the old building was taken down. A famous architect named Fumihiko Maki designed the new building. This new museum opened its doors to the public on October 26, 1986. It has lots of space for showing art.
MoMAK's Art Collections

MoMAK is a special place that collects and keeps artworks from the 20th century. It focuses on art from Japan and other countries. The museum especially highlights artists and art styles from Kyoto and the Kansai area in western Japan. This includes traditional Japanese-style paintings.
The museum's galleries often change their displays. You can see different types of art like Japanese-style paintings (nihonga) and Western-style paintings (yōga). They also show prints, sculptures, and crafts. These crafts include ceramics, textiles, metalworks, wood, bamboo, lacquers, and jewelry. Photography is also a big part of their collection.
MoMAK also displays important modern art from Japan. You can also find modern and contemporary art from Europe and America here. The works on display change about 20 times a year, so there's always something new to see!
