Braehead

Braehead, also known as Howison House, is located at 123 Lee Drive. It was added to the National Register in 2000. This house played a big part in the American Civil War! It was important for battle plans during the Battle of Fredericksburg between 1862 and 1864.

Brompton

Brompton is found at Hanover Street and Sunken Road. It joined the list in 1979. Today, it's the home of the President of the University of Mary Washington. During the Battle of Fredericksburg (1862–1863), it was the headquarters for Confederate General James Longstreet.

The Chimneys

The Chimneys is a beautiful building at 623 Caroline Street. It was built in 1771 for a person named John Glassell and was added to the register in 1975.

Fall Hill

Fall Hill is a grand Georgian-style home built in 1790 for Francis Thorton V. It's located northwest of Fredericksburg off VA 639 and was listed in 1973.

Kenmore Plantation

Kenmore is a very important National Historic Landmark at 1201 Washington Avenue, listed in 1969. It was the home of Fielding and Betty Washington Lewis. Betty was the sister of George Washington, who became the first president of the United States!

Walker-Grant School

The Walker-Grant School is on Gunnery Road, between Dunmore and Ferdinand Streets. It was listed in 1998. This school was very important because it was the first public high school for Black students in Fredericksburg, named after Joseph Walker and Jason Grant.
