Navajo Mountain (which in the Navajo language is Naatsisʼáán) is a special type of community called a census-designated place (CDP). It is located on the Navajo Nation in the southwestern part of San Juan County, Utah, in the United States. In 2020, about 450 people lived there.

What's in a Name?
This community gets its name from the nearby Navajo Mountain. The Navajo name for the mountain, Naatsisʼáán, has a very special meaning: "Head of the Earth Woman." This name is an important part of the Navajo creation story, which tells how the world and the Navajo people came to be. The beautiful Rainbow Bridge rock formation, which is close by, is also part of this important story.
Navajo Mountain is located in a dry, landlocked area. The entire community covers about 31.6 square miles (or 81.8 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.
Who Lives Here?

According to a count done in 2000, there were 379 people living in Navajo Mountain. Most of the people living here are Native American, making up about 97% of the population. A small number of residents are White or from two or more racial backgrounds.
Many households in Navajo Mountain have children. In fact, about half of the homes had kids under 18 living there in 2000. The average household had about four people. The community has a young population, with many residents under the age of 18. The average age of people living in Navajo Mountain was 21 years old.
Learning and Education
Education is important in Navajo Mountain. The local public school system, called the San Juan School District, runs Navajo Mountain High School. This school helps older students get their education.
For younger students, there is a special tribal school called NaaTsis'aan (Navajo Mountain) Community School. This school serves students in the lower grades.
There is also a building that used to be a school. It has been updated and is now used as a center for arts education, giving people a place to learn about and create art.
