"Navajo Cops" is a TV show that lets you see what it's like to be a police officer for the Navajo Nation Police. This show is like a "reality" series, meaning it tries to show real events. The National Geographic Channel made this show with a company called Flight 33 Productions. It started with a special one-hour episode in May 2011. Then, a full series with six parts began in March 2012. The show is similar to other police shows on National Geographic, like Border Wars and Alaska State Troopers.

About the Show's Start

In the spring of 2011, the National Geographic Channel showed a special one-hour episode of "Navajo Cops." A company called Flight 33 Productions created this show. Samuel K. Dolan came up with the idea and helped write and produce it. This first episode followed police officers from the Navajo Nation Police and the Navajo Rangers. It was filmed in 2010 and first aired on May 11, 2011. People liked it a lot!

Later in 2011, it was announced that more episodes would be made. Six new episodes were ordered. The series shows the hard work of the men and women in the Navajo Nation Police Department. It premiered in March 2012. Most of the filming happened in police areas like Window Rock, Chinle, Kayenta, and Tuba City. Some parts were also filmed in Shiprock and Crownpoint, New Mexico. Louis Tarantino and Douglas Cohen were the main producers for Flight 33 Productions. Tim Evans was a supervising producer, and Samuel Dolan was a senior producer. Dolan also directed some episodes. He wrote the series with Steffen Schlachtenhaufen.

What the Series is About

The show explains that the 320 police officers of the Navajo Police patrol a very tough area. This is in the heart of the American Southwest. These officers are like modern-day protectors. Their job is to keep safe the largest Native American reservation in North America. They also work to protect an ancient way of life.

Season One: Episodes in 2012

The first official episode of "Navajo Cops" came out on Monday, March 12, 2012. This was after the pilot episode in 2011 was so popular. New episodes were shown every Monday for six weeks on National Geographic. Each episode was one hour long. They followed police officers in different areas of the Navajo Nation Police. Some officers appeared in more than one episode. These included Officer Perry Champagne, Officer Chris Holgate, and Officer Philbert Toddy. Some episodes also showed officers from the Navajo Rangers and the Navajo Department of Fish & Wildlife.
