Nazas is a town located in the state of Durango, in north-western Mexico. It is the main town, or seat, of the municipality of Nazas. In 2010, about 3,622 people lived in the town of Nazas.
The town of Nazas is famous for its "Architectonic ensemble." This means its special buildings and layout are part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. This historic route became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
Nazas was also a very special place to be on April 8, 2024. This is because the longest part of the solar eclipse happened right near the town. The sun was completely hidden for about 4 minutes and 28 seconds!
What Nazas is Known For
Growing Pecan Nuts
One of the most important things grown in the Nazas area is the pecan nut. Because of this, the town is often called the Paraíso de la Nuez, which means "Pecan Paradise."
Farmers in Nazas grow different types of pecans. The most common ones are called Wisha and Western. After alfalfa, pecans are the second most planted crop in the region.
