Nebo is a small village located in southern Pike County, Illinois, in the United States. In 2020, about 282 people lived there. Nebo has three churches within its village limits.
Village History
The first people to settle in the Nebo area arrived in 1832. A man named Silas Wilson started this first settlement. It was a bit north of where the village is today. The first baby was born there in 1835.
A post office opened in December 1852. The name "Nebo" might come from the Bible, where the name is mentioned many times. In the late 1860s, a railroad was built through Illinois. The current village of Nebo grew up around this new railroad.
Nebo officially became a village in 1894. This means it got special permission from the state of Illinois. In 1899, a big fire destroyed many businesses in Nebo. In 1911, a famous airplane called the Vin Fiz Flyer landed near the village. A bank was opened in Neb946. William J. Thornton, who was an Illinois state representative and businessman, also lived in Nebo.

Village Festivals
Nebo holds a special festival every August. This festival celebrates the landing of the Vin Fiz airplane. This plane was the first to fly across North America in 1911.
