Nehalem Bay State Park is a fun state park located on the beautiful Oregon Coast in the United States. You can find it near the towns of Nehalem and Manzanita. The park sits on a sand spit called the Nehalem Spit, which is west of Nehalem Bay.

Discover Nehalem Bay State Park

This amazing park became a state park thanks to Tillamook County. They gave the land to the State of Oregon in the 1930s. For many years, workers helped make the land stable. They planted special plants like European beach grass, shore pine, and Scotch broom. This important work took about twenty years! Finally, the park officially opened its doors in 1972.

What Can You Do at Nehalem Bay State Park?

Nehalem Bay State Park is a great place for many activities. It has areas just for day visits, perfect for a picnic or a quick stop. If you want to stay longer, there's a big campground. You can bring your tent or park your recreational vehicle (RV) there. The park also welcomes horse riders, hikers, and bicyclists with special camping spots.

Amazing Animals and Wildlife

The park is home to many different kinds of animals. You might see various birds flying around. Keep an eye out for deer and large elk. Sometimes, bigger animals like mountain lions and black bears visit the park. You might also spot coyotes. Remember to always keep a safe distance from wildlife.

Nehalem Bay State Park has some unique features. There's a small air strip called the Nehalem Bay State Airport. This is for small planes to land and take off. The park also has an amphitheater. During the summer, you can enjoy special programs and shows there. These programs often teach you about the park's nature and history.

Explore Nehalem Beach and Neahkahnie Mountain

Right within the park, you'll find Nehalem Beach. It's a wonderful place to walk along the ocean. Just south of the park is Neahkahnie Mountain. This mountain is the tallest piece of coastal land between San Francisco and Canada. A special group called the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built the trail to the mountain's top in the 1930s.
