Neil E. Bogart (born Neil Scott Bogatz, February 3, 1943 – May 8, 1982) was an American music executive. He was the founder of Casablanca Records, a very famous record label. This company later became Casablanca Record and Filmworks.

Neil Bogart's Early Life and Career

Neil Scott Bogatz was born in New York City on February 3, 1943. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York. In the 1960s, he started his career as a singer, using the name Neil Scott.

Later, he moved into the business side of music. He worked for a record company called Cameo-Parkway Records. After that, he became an executive at Buddah Records. Neil Bogart was known for helping to make bubblegum pop music popular. This was a fun, catchy style of pop music.

Founding Casablanca Records

In 1973, Neil Bogart started his own record company, Casablanca Records. One of the first groups he signed was the rock band Kiss.

Casablanca Records became very famous for promoting disco music. Bogart helped launch the careers of huge disco stars like Donna Summer and the Village People.

But Casablanca Records wasn't just about disco. They also signed rock bands like T. Rex and Fanny. The label also brought funk music to more people by signing George Clinton's band, Parliament, in 1974.

Just before he passed away, Neil Bogart started another company called Boardwalk Records. He signed new wave artists like Joan Jett and Night Ranger.

Neil Bogart's Passing

In 1981, Neil Bogart's health started to get worse. He had to go to the hospital often. Neil Bogart died on May 8, 1982, at the age of 39. He passed away from cancer and lymphoma. He was buried in Culver City, California.

Neil Bogart's Lasting Legacy

After Neil Bogart's death, his wife, Joyce Bogart-Trabulus, and songwriter Carole Bayer Sager started a special fund. It was called the Neil Bogart Memorial Fund. Today, it's known as the Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program.

This fund helps support research to find cures for childhood cancer. In 1984, the fund opened its own laboratories at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Neil Bogart's influence can be seen in music and movies:
