His Early Life and Education
Neil Gillman was born in Quebec City, Canada. He went to McGill University and finished his studies there in 1954.
Later, he became a rabbi in 1960. He studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He also earned a special degree called a Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia University in 1975.
His Work in Conservative Judaism
Neil Gillman was an important member of the Conservative movement. This group has rabbis who are part of the Rabbinical Assembly. He was also a professor of Jewish philosophy at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. This seminary is located in Manhattan, New York City, USA.
Gillman helped create an important document for Conservative Judaism. It was called Emet Ve-Emunah, which means "Truth and Faith." This document was the first official statement of beliefs for the Conservative Jewish movement.
