Neill Rawlins Sheridan (born November 20, 1921 – died October 15, 2015) was an American baseball player. People sometimes called him "Wild Horse." He played baseball for 12 years, from 1943 to 1954. Most of his career was spent in the minor leagues.

Neill was an outfielder, which is a player who fields the ball in the outfield. He played only two games in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox in 1948. In one game, he was a pinch hitter, and in the other, he was a pinch runner. Neill was born in Sacramento, California. He threw and batted with his right hand. He was 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 m) tall and weighed 195 pounds (88 kg).

Neill Sheridan's Major League Games

Neill Sheridan played his first MLB game on September 19, 1948. The Boston Red Sox were trying hard to win their league. Neill came into the game as a pinch runner for Bobby Doerr. Bobby Doerr later became a famous player in the Baseball Hall of Fame. This game was against the Detroit Tigers.

One week later, Neill played his second and last MLB game. He was a pinch hitter in the ninth inning. He batted for the pitcher, Dave Ferriss. Neill faced a left-handed pitcher named Tommy Byrne from the New York Yankees. Neill was called out on strikes, meaning he swung and missed three times. After these two games, his time in Major League Baseball ended.

Playing in the Minor Leagues

Even though Neill Sheridan only played two MLB games, he had a long career in the minor leagues. He played in 1,446 minor league games. The minor leagues are where players develop their skills before or after playing in the major leagues.

Neill was a very important player in the Pacific Coast League (PCL) after World War II. He played for five different teams in the PCL. These included two teams from his home area, the San Francisco Bay Area. He played for the San Francisco Seals and the Oakland Oaks.

Later Life
