The Lepidiolamprologus meeli is a type of cichlid fish. It is a species that lives only in Lake Tanganyika. This lake is found in parts of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia.
This fish is sometimes called Neolamprologus meeli. It is closely related to other cichlids like N. boulengeri, L. hecqui, L. attenuatus, and L. kendalli.
What's in a Name?
This special cichlid fish was named after a botanist named Ludo van Meel. He lived from 1908 to 1990. Ludo van Meel was part of a Belgian team that studied Lake Tanganyika. This team explored the lake between 1946 and 1947. During their trip, they found the first Lepidiolamprologus meeli fish.
