Nescafé is a popular brand of instant coffee. It is made by a big food company called Nestlé. The name "Nescafé" is a mix of "Nestlé" and "café" (which means coffee). Nestlé first launched Nescafé in Switzerland on April 1, 1938. You can find Nescafé in many different forms around the world.

The Story of Nescafé

How Nescafé Was Created

Nestlé started working on a coffee brand in 1930. The government of Brazil asked them for help. Brazil had a lot of extra coffee beans each year. They needed a way to save this large amount of coffee.

A scientist named Max Morgenthaler led the project. After years of work, Nestlé introduced Nescafé. This happened on April 1, 1938. Nescafé was a powdered coffee that dissolved in water.

New Types of Nescafé

Nescafé became very popular, especially during World War II. Soldiers found it easy to make.

In 1965, Nestlé launched a new type of Nescafé. It was called "Nescafé Gold" in Europe. This coffee was made using a special method called freeze-drying.

A year later, in 1966, Nestlé created another freeze-dried coffee. This one was named "Taster's Choice."

Nescafé Around the World

Marketing and Brands

In the United States, Nescafé was sold until the late 1960s. Then, Nestlé introduced "Taster's Choice" in Canada and the US. For many years, Taster's Choice was the main instant coffee brand there.

Nestlé still sells Taster's Choice today. It is often seen as a fancier and more expensive coffee than regular Nescafé.

In 2003, the Nescafé brand returned to Canada and the US. It is now known as Nescafé Taster's Choice. You can find it in supermarkets in glass jars or plastic containers.

Famous Advertisements

In the United Kingdom, Nescafé had a very popular TV ad series. It featured a couple, played by Anthony Head and Sharon Maughan. These ads ran from 1987 to 1993.

Later, famous athletes like boxer Chris Eubank and soccer star Ian Wright appeared in Nescafé ads.

Different Nescafé Products

Nescafé started with instant coffee. But now, it's a big brand for many coffee products. In the UK, this includes Gold Blend and Blend 37.

Dolce Gusto machines are sold in over 60 countries. Most Dolce Gusto drinks use real roasted coffee beans. This is different from instant coffee.

Nescafé in India and Australia

In India, Nescafé is a very trusted brand. It has been ranked among the top trusted brands for many years. Nestlé India sells instant coffee as Nescafe Classic. They also have a mix of coffee and chicory called Sunrise.

In Australia and New Zealand, the original instant coffee is called "Blend 43". This name helped people know it was made locally.
