Nescafé is a very popular brand of instant coffee. It is made by a company called Nestlé, which is based in Vevey, Switzerland. The name Nescafé is a mix of "Nestlé" and "café" (which means coffee). Nestlé first launched Nescafé in Switzerland on April 1, 1938.

The Story of Nescafé

Nestlé started working on a coffee brand in 1930. The government of Brazil asked them to help. Brazil had a lot of extra coffee beans each year. Nestlé wanted to find a way to save these beans.

A person named Max Morgenthaler led the team that created Nescafé. They introduced this new coffee on April 1, 1938. Nescafé is a powdered coffee that dissolves in water. It became very popular in America during World War II.

In 1965, Nestlé launched a new type of Nescafé. It was called "Nescafé Gold" and was made using a special method called freeze-drying. This product was first sold in Europe. A year later, in 1966, Nestlé also created a freeze-dried coffee called Taster's Choice.

How Nescafé is Marketed

In the United States, Nestlé used the Nescafé name until the late 1960s. Then, they introduced a new brand called Taster's Choice in Canada and the US. For many years, Taster's Choice was more common than Nescafé there.

Nestlé still sells Taster's Choice as a separate product. It is often seen as a higher-quality and more expensive coffee than Nescafé.

In the United Kingdom, Nescafé had a famous television advertisement series. It featured a couple, played by Anthony Head and Sharon Maughan. These ads ran from 1987 to 1993. Famous athletes like Chris Eubank and Ian Wright also appeared in Nescafé ads later on.

In 2003, Nestlé brought the Nescafé brand back to Canada and the US. The product is now called Nescafé Taster's Choice. You can find it in supermarkets in glass jars or plastic containers.

Nescafé was first made for instant coffee. But now, the name Nescafé is used for many different instant coffee products. For example, in the UK, Gold Blend and Blend 37 are also Nescafé products.

In 2006, Nescafé launched a new coffee machine system. It is called "Dolce Gusto", which means "sweet taste" in Italian. This system lets people make different types of coffee at home. You can make drinks like cappuccino, latte macchiato, and espresso.

The Dolce Gusto machines can also make hot chocolate and cold drinks. They are now sold in over 60 countries. Most Dolce Gusto drinks use real roasted coffee beans, not instant coffee.

In 2009, Nescafé started a big advertising campaign in the UK. It cost £43 million and focused on how pure their coffee is. The slogan was "Coffee at its brightest".

Nescafé is a very trusted brand in India. It has been ranked among the top trusted brands in various reports. In Australia and New Zealand, the original instant coffee is called "Blend 43". This name helped tell it apart from imported coffee.

In Pakistan, Nescafé started a music show called Nescafé Basement. It is similar to another popular music show called Coke Studio.
