Ness City is well-known for its unique four-story building, the Old Ness County Bank Building. People sometimes call it the Skyscraper of the Plains because it stands out in the flat landscape.

Ness City was started in 1878. The town grew a lot when the railroad arrived in 1886. This made it easier for people and goods to travel to and from the city.
