A Look at History

Nestlé Waters has a long and interesting history, growing from a small start to a worldwide company.

Early Beginnings

  • 1843: Henri Nestlé, who later founded the Nestlé Group, opened his first factory. It made lemonade and bottled water.
  • 1866: The main Nestlé Group was officially started.

Growing Bigger

  • 1987: Nestlé took a larger share in Vittel and joined with a company called Arrowhead.
  • 1992: Nestlé bought Source Perrier S.A. This made Nestlé the biggest bottled water company in the world! They called this new part of the company Nestlé Sources International (NSI).
  • 1996: NSI changed its name to Perrier Vittel S.A. to help it grow even more around the world.
  • 1998: They took over Italy's top bottled water maker, Sanpellegrino S.p.A. They also launched a new water brand called Nestlé Pure Life.
  • 2000: Nestlé Aquarel, a new spring water, was launched in many countries across Europe at the same time.
  • 2001: Perrier Vittel bought Al Manhal, a leading bottled water company in Saudi Arabia. This made them a top player in the Middle East.
  • 2002: Perrier Vittel changed its name again to Nestlé Waters.
  • 2003: Nestlé Waters bought the Powwow Group.

Expanding Worldwide

  • 2009: Nestlé Waters grew stronger in important growing countries. They bought Àguas de Santa Barbara in Brazil and Dashan Drinks in China.

Water Use and Community

In 2009, some people raised concerns about how much water is used globally. They pointed out that there might not be enough fresh water for everyone in the future. Nestlé Waters shared their research on this topic. They suggested that we need to be more careful about how we use water and make sure it is delivered efficiently around the world.

Also in 2009, some groups gathered to share their thoughts about Nestlé Waters' use of local water sources. They wanted to make sure that communities had a say in how their water was managed. Nestlé officials responded by explaining their plans to be open about where their water comes from.

Recent Years
