Nevertire is a small country village in New South Wales, Australia. It is located where two major roads, the Mitchell Highway and the Oxley Highway, meet. This village is part of the Warren Shire area.

Nevertire is about 496 kilometres (308 miles) northwest of Sydney. It is also about 78 kilometres (48 miles) northwest of Narromine and 107 kilometres (66 miles) from Dubbo. The village is quite close to Warren, being only about 20 kilometres (12 miles) southwest. In 2011, about 225 people lived in Nevertire.

A Glimpse into Nevertire's Past

Nevertire was first known as Warren Pond. The village started to grow when the Main West railway line arrived in 1882. This brought more people and opportunities to the area. Even before the town was officially mapped out in 1883, a local pub was already open for business.

A powerful tornado hit Nevertire on December 28, 1896. It caused a lot of damage to the town. For many years, Nevertire had its own railway station. However, in the 1980s, fewer people were travelling by train in the country. Because of this, passenger train services were replaced by bus services. These buses are run by a company called CountryLink.

What Services Does Nevertire Offer?

Nevertire is an important spot for transport. It sits where the main railway line to Nyngan connects with a smaller branch line that goes to Warren. Today, three different CountryLink bus services stop in Nevertire. These buses help people travel to nearby towns like Bourke, Nyngan, Cobar, and Broken Hill.

The village also has a large facility for handling grain. This is where crops like wheat are stored and loaded onto trains. These trains are operated by Pacific National. You can also find a few local businesses in Nevertire. There's a pub, which also serves as the local post office. There's also a cafe and store called The Rural Trader, along with welding services and a shop for farm supplies.

Learning in Nevertire

Nevertire Public School used to be the local school. However, it closed at the end of 2002. This happened because there were not enough students enrolling. Now, children from Nevertire usually go to school in Warren. They attend either Warren Central School or St Mary's.

Nevertire has even been mentioned in art! It is the subject of a poem called Nevertire by Betty Casey. The famous Australian writer Henry Lawson once described the area as the edge of the Great Grey Plain.
