A New Home: The Story of New Alluwe
Many of the first people who lived in New Alluwe came from an older town called Alluwe. This happened in the 1950s. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a big dam across the Verdigris River. This dam created a large body of water called Oologah Lake.
Because of the new lake, the old town of Alluwe ended up underwater. So, the people had to move and start a new community. That's how New Alluwe was born! The original town of Alluwe is now a "ghost town" at the bottom of the lake.
