New Concord is a small town, called a village, in Muskingum County, Ohio. In 2020, about 2,361 people lived there. It's part of the wider Zanesville area. New Concord is special because it's home to Muskingum University. It also has a branch of the local library system.

The Story of New Concord
New Concord started in 1828. This was when the National Road reached the area. A post office opened in 1832.
Just nine years later, in 1837, Muskingum University was founded. Its first students graduated in 1839.
The old U.S. Route 40 was important for trade. New Concord became a popular stop for travelers. Later, in the 1960s and 1970s, Interstate 70 was built. This new highway went around the village.

The village is right on U.S. Route 40. This is the historic National Road. It's also very close to Interstate 70, which runs parallel to Route 40.

Culture and Music in New Concord
Music is a big part of New Concord's culture. The Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra performs at Muskingum University. They play concerts in Brown Chapel.
John Glenn High School also has many musical groups. These include a strolling strings group called String Sounds. There is also a traveling choir and a steel drum band.
