About New Kingman-Butler
How it Got its Name
New Kingman-Butler was named after Leroy Butler. He was the person who first started developing the land there. The original name for the area was "New Kingman," but people don't really use that name much anymore. Most people just call the area "Butler." It's a unique part of the Kingman area.
Governing the Community
Even though Butler is a big part of the Kingman area, it's not officially a city. This means it's an unincorporated community. Instead of having its own city government, it's managed directly by Mohave County.
Over the years, there have been many ideas and attempts to make Butler part of the city of Kingman. This is called annexation. However, none of these attempts have worked out.
One big reason is that Butler doesn't have a central sewer system. All the homes and buildings there use their own individual septic tanks. If Butler were to join Kingman, it would cost a lot of money to build and connect a new sewer system for everyone. The city of Kingman would likely need to raise taxes on landowners to pay for such a big project, and voters haven't approved that.
