Exploring New Manchester
New Manchester has had a few different names over the years. It was once called Fairview and also Pughtown before becoming New Manchester. This community is nestled in the beautiful state of West Virginia, known for its mountains and forests.
Early Beginnings
The area that is now New Manchester was first planned out, or "plat"ted, in the year 1810. When a place is platted, it means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and public areas would be. This helped people imagine how the community would grow and develop. Originally, the community was simply called Manchester.
A Glimpse into History
New Manchester has a connection to the past through its buildings. There was once an important building called the Old Court House. This building was so special that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The National Register is a list of places in the United States that are important to history. Even though the Old Court House was recognized for its history, it has since been taken down.
