The New River is a river in the state of Georgia, United States. It is about 34.4-mile-long (55.4 km). This river is like a smaller helper stream, called a tributary, that flows into the Withlacoochee River. From there, its waters travel through the Withlacoochee and then into the Suwannee River. Finally, all these waters reach the Gulf of Mexico.

What is the New River?

The New River is an important waterway in southern Georgia. It helps carry water from the land to larger rivers and eventually to the ocean. Rivers like the New River are vital for the environment and for people. They provide homes for many animals and plants.

Where Does the New River Start and End?

The New River begins near the northern part of Tifton, Georgia. This is where its journey starts. From Tifton, the river flows towards the southeast. It continues its path until it meets the Withlacoochee River. This meeting point is located between the cities of Adel and Nashville.

The River as a Boundary

For a big part of its journey, about two-thirds of its length, the New River acts like a natural border. It forms the line between two counties in Georgia: Berrien County and Cook County. This means if you are on one side of the river, you are in one county, and on the other side, you are in a different county!
