A New Beginning: The History of New Strawn

New Strawn was created in the early 1960s. This happened because the John Redmond Reservoir was being built. The original town of Strawn was in the area that would be flooded by the new reservoir. So, the Army Corps of Engineers took over the land.

Today, very little is left of the "old" Strawn. You can sometimes explore the old town site, especially Main Street, when the lake water is low. The old school had two rooms, one for younger grades and one for older grades. The Strawn Methodist Church was also nearby.
