New Washington is a small community in Clark County, Indiana, United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes. In 2010, about 566 people lived here. By 2020, the population grew slightly to 595 residents.

Exploring New Washington's Past

New Washington was first settled in 1815. A few years later, in 1819, a post office was opened in the community. This helped people send and receive mail more easily.

New Washington was also the closest town to the Marble Hill Nuclear Power Plant. This power plant is no longer in use today.

Discovering New Washington's Location

New Washington is located in the northeastern part of Clark County, Indiana. A main road, Indiana State Road 62, goes right through the middle of the community.

This road can take you to other towns. If you head north and then east, it's about 19 miles (30 kilometers) to Madison. If you go southwest, it's about 24 miles (39 kilometers) to Jeffersonville. Jeffersonville is located across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky.

The total area of New Washington is about 5.2 square miles (13.5 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a very small part being water.
