Newby's is a popular spot in Memphis, Tennessee, known for its live music, bar, pool hall, and restaurant. It's located very close to the University of Memphis, making it a favorite hangout for students and locals alike.
History of Newby's
Newby's first opened its doors in 1975. It was started by David "Newby" Harsh. Over the years, Newby's grew quite a bit. It added a full bar, a fun pool room, and a large outdoor patio. One of the biggest changes was when they turned an old movie theater from the 1950s into a special place just for live music!
In 1997, David Harsh sold Newby's to Todd Adams, who had worked there as a bartender. Newby's closed for a short time in 2014, but it thankfully reopened about a year later.

Newby's Facilities
Newby's used to have two main areas for music. The old concert hall was quite large and could hold several hundred people. The bar and restaurant area also offered live music and could fit about 200 people.
Usually, bigger bands that toured around the country played in the concert hall. Smaller, acoustic acts would perform on the bar side. The concert hall closed in 2015, but the bar area was made bigger, and its stage was improved to host larger acts.
