North Mississippi Allstars is an American blues-rock band that started in 1996. They are from Hernando, Mississippi, USA. The band is known for its unique blend of blues, rock, and country music, often called "hill country blues."
Meet the Band Members
The band is made up of two brothers, Luther Dickinson and Cody Dickinson, along with Chris Chew.
- Luther Dickinson plays the guitar and sings the vocals.
- Cody Dickinson plays the drums, keyboards, and even an electric washboard.
- Chris Chew plays the electric bass guitar.
Luther Dickinson also plays a special kind of guitar called a "lowebow," which is made from a cigar box.
Award-Winning Albums
The North Mississippi Allstars have released several albums that have received special recognition. Their first album, Shake Hands With Shorty, was nominated for a Grammy for "Best Contemporary Blues Album." This is a very important award in music.
Two more of their albums, 51 Phantom and Electric Blue Watermelon, also received nominations in the same category. The group also won a W.C. Handy Award for "Best New Artist Debut" in 2001. This award celebrates new and exciting artists in blues music.
Touring and Other Projects
The band often tours and performs their music live. They have even released an album with famous musician John Hiatt called Master of Disaster.
After 2007, Luther Dickinson also started playing lead guitar for another band called The Black Crowes. He played on their album Warpaint and toured with them.
Cody Dickinson also started his own side project called "Hill Country Revue." He plays in this group with Chris Chew, Garry Burnside, Daniel Coburn, Duwayne Burnside, and Kirk Smithart.
