Newtown is a small area called a borough in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It is located inside the larger town of Newtown. In 2010, about 1,941 people lived in the borough.
History
Newtown's Old Buildings
A special part of the borough is known as the Newtown Borough Historic District. This area was officially recognized as a historic district in 1996. This means it has important old buildings and places that are worth protecting.
Some buildings in this district date back to 1780. One very old house, the Glover House, is also part of this historic area.
In 1996, the district included 225 important buildings. It also had a special meadow called "Ram's Pasture." This meadow was once common land, meaning it was used by everyone in the community.
Geography
Newtown Borough covers about 2.3 square miles (6.0 square kilometers). All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within the borough's boundaries.
People of Newtown
In 2000, there were 1,843 people living in Newtown Borough. These people lived in 649 households. Many of these households were families.
