Nguyễn Thị Doan (born 8 November 1951) is an important Vietnamese politician and teacher. She served as the Vice President of Vietnam from 2007 to 2016. She was also a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee. In addition, she was a representative for Hà Nam Province in the National Assembly of Vietnam.

Early Life and Education
Nguyễn Thị Doan was born on November 1, 1951. Her hometown is in the northern province of Hà Nam, Vietnam. She began her university studies in 1977. She attended Hanoi University of Commerce. There, she earned her degree in economics in 1979.
After graduating, Mrs. Doan became a lecturer at the same university. She continued her studies abroad. She earned a Ph.D. in economics in Bulgaria. This was at the University of National and World Economy. She also studied business administration in France. In 1982, she officially joined the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Career in Academia
After returning to Vietnam, Nguyễn Thị Doan took on a big role. She was appointed as the Rector of Hanoi University of Commerce. A rector is like the president of a university. This shows her strong background in education and leadership.

Nguyễn Thị Doan's political career began to grow in 1996.
Joining the Central Committee
In June 1996, a big meeting happened. It was the Eighth National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. At this event, Nguyễn Thị Doan was chosen. She became a member of the Party's Central Committee. This committee helps lead the Communist Party. Three years later, she joined the Central Committee's Supervisory Commission. This group helps make sure rules are followed.
Re-election and Leadership
She was re-elected to the Party's Central Committee two more times. This happened at the Ninth and Tenth Congresses. During this time, she served as the Permanent Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Commission. This means she was a very important leader in that group.
Becoming Vice President
On July 25, 2007, Nguyễn Thị Doan reached a high position. The Twelfth National Assembly elected her. She became the Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. She held this important role for many years. Her term as Vice President lasted until April 8, 2016.
