Trần Đại Quang (born October 12, 1956 – died September 21, 2018) was an important leader in Vietnam. He served as the eighth President of Vietnam from 2016 until he passed away in 2018. Before becoming president, he was the Minister of Public Security for five years, from 2011 to 2016.
Trần Đại Quang was chosen by the National Assembly to be president on April 2, 2016. He was one of Vietnam's top leaders. He was ranked second in the Politburo, which is a very important group in the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Early Life
Trần Đại Quang was born on October 12, 1956, in Ninh Bình Province, which was then part of North Vietnam. His father worked as a fish catcher, and his mother sold bananas.
He was one of six children in his family. After his father died, his mother worked hard to raise them. Trần Đại Quang helped his mother with farming. He was known for being hardworking, dedicated, and calm.
Political Career
Trần Đại Quang had many important roles in the Vietnamese government. He was the Minister of Public Security from 2011 to 2016. This role is like being in charge of the country's police and security.
He also served as the President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society from 2017 to 2018. He was a member of the Politburo, a top decision-making group in the Communist Party of Vietnam. In this group, he was ranked second.
Trần Đại Quang joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on July 26, 1980. He became an official member a year later. From 1997, he was part of the Politburo and the Central Committee of the party.
In January 2016, he was chosen to be the President of Vietnam. The National Assembly confirmed his position on April 2, 2016. He took over from Trương Tấn Sang. On the same day, he suggested Nguyễn Xuân Phúc to become the new head of government.

Personal Life
Trần Đại Quang was married to Nguyễn Thị Hiền. She took part in official events as the de facto First Lady of Vietnam.
He was the second of four brothers and had two sisters. His youngest brother, Trần Quốc Tỏ, is also a political leader in Vietnam.
Death and Funeral
Trần Đại Quang passed away on September 21, 2018, at a hospital in Hanoi. He was 61 years old and was still serving as president.
A special state funeral was held for him on September 27 in Hanoi. After the service, his body was taken to his hometown in Kim Sơn District, Ninh Binh, where he was buried. Many important people from Vietnam and other countries attended his funeral.
