Nicholas Alexander Johnson, born on December 22, 1992, is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for Trefl Sopot in the Polish Basketball League. Before becoming a pro, Nick played college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats. He was even named the best player in his college conference, the Pac-12. In 2014, the Houston Rockets picked him in the NBA draft. He played for them during the 2014–15 season.

Nick Johnson's High School Basketball Journey

Nick Johnson started playing high school basketball at Highland High School in Gilbert, Arizona. He played there from 2007 to 2009.

After that, he moved to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada for his junior year. In the 2009–10 season, he was really good. He scored about 14.1 points, grabbed 4.6 rebounds, and made 3.4 assists per game. He helped Findlay Prep win 32 games and only lose 2.

In November 2010, Nick officially agreed to play college basketball. He chose to play for the University of Arizona.

During his senior year in 2010–11, Nick's skills grew even more. He averaged 24.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. He led Findlay Prep to a 28–4 record. Experts ranked him as one of the top basketball players in the country.

Freshman Year Success

In his first year, Nick was named to the 2012 Pac-12 All-Freshman team. This means he was one of the best new players in his college conference. He played in 35 games, averaging 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

Sophomore Year Growth

During his second year, Nick continued to improve. He was recognized for his defense, earning an honorable mention for the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. At the Pac-12 Tournament, he was a key player for his team. He averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game. Overall, he averaged 11.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.9 steals in 35 games.

Junior Year Highlights

His junior year was his best in college. He was named to the first-team All-Pac-12 and the Pac-12 All-Defensive team. The biggest honor was being named the Pac-12 Player of the Year. This means he was the best player in the entire conference. He ended his college career with 1,333 points, which put him 24th on Arizona's all-time scoring list. In 38 games, he averaged 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals.

On April 15, 2014, Nick decided to enter the NBA draft. He chose to go pro a year early.

Nick Johnson's Professional Basketball Career

After his successful college career, Nick Johnson began his professional basketball journey.

Starting with the Houston Rockets (2014–2015)

On June 26, 2014, the Houston Rockets picked Nick Johnson as the 42nd player in the 2014 NBA draft. He officially signed with the Rockets on July 25, 2014. He had a good performance in the NBA Summer League, averaging 12.5 points per game.

During his first year with the Rockets, he also played for their minor league team. He was sent multiple times to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA Development League.

In July 2015, the Rockets traded Nick to the Denver Nuggets. However, the Nuggets waived him in October 2015 after he played in six preseason games.

Playing for the Austin Spurs (2015–2016)

On December 28, 2015, Nick joined the Austin Spurs in the NBA Development League. He played 34 games for the Austin Spurs during the 2015–16 season. He averaged 10.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.

In September 2016, Nick signed with the Orlando Magic. But he was waived by them in October after playing in four preseason games.

Playing in Germany with Bayern Munich (2016–2017)

On October 29, 2016, Nick Johnson moved to Germany. He signed with Bayern Munich, a team in the German Basketball Bundesliga. He played for them until the end of the season.

Returning to the Austin Spurs (2017–2019)

Nick returned to the Austin Spurs on November 2, 2017. This time, he helped the team win the G League championship. He was even named the G League Finals MVP for his amazing performance.

He later signed with the San Antonio Spurs and played four preseason games. However, he was waived again. On November 18, 2018, he rejoined the Austin Spurs.

Moving to Wisconsin Herd (2019)

On January 16, 2019, Nick was traded to the Wisconsin Herd. This was part of a trade involving other players and a draft pick.

Playing in France with Nanterre 92 (2019)

On March 22, 2019, Nick signed with Nanterre 92, a team in France.

Playing in Turkey with Türk Telekom (2019–2021)

On September 5, 2019, Nick signed with Türk Telekom in the Turkish Basketball Super League. He played well, averaging 11.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He signed with the team again in October 2020.

Second Time with Nanterre 92 (2021–2022)

On July 30, 2021, Nick signed again with Nanterre 92 in France.

Playing in Israel with Hapoel Holon (2023)

On November 6, 2023, Nick signed with Hapoel Holon in the Israeli Basketball Premier League.

Joining Trefl Sopot (2024–Present)

On November 27, 2024, Nick signed with Trefl Sopot in the Polish Basketball League. This is where he plays now.

Nick Johnson's Family Life

Nick Johnson comes from a family of basketball players. His father, Joey Johnson, played professional basketball. His uncle, Dennis Johnson, was also a professional basketball player. Dennis was a three-time NBA champion and is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
