Nick Mutuma was born in Meru, Kenya. He spent his early years growing up in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. There, he finished his primary school education. Later, he moved to Nairobi, Kenya, to attend Braeside School for his high school studies.

His first big chance on TV came when he was chosen for the Citizen TV show "Tabasamu." He played a character named Luka. His role in the drama series Shuga, where he acted alongside the famous Lupita Nyong'o, helped him become very well-known. In 2015, Mutuma also appeared in a popular online series called This Is It. In 2018, Nick Mutuma and his girlfriend, Bridget Shighadi, welcomed their baby girl, Dua Mutuma.

In 2013, Mutuma released his first song, "254 anthem." It featured Lyra Aoko. This song celebrated good things about Kenya. In September 2014, Nick released another song called "That Life," featuring Cool Kid Taffie.
