Nicola Lindsay (born in 1944 in London, England) is an English writer and actor. She has lived in the Republic of Ireland for over 40 years. Nicola writes many different things. These include novels, poetry, and books for children. She also creates material for radio and the theatre.

Her Life Story

Early Years and Education

Nicola went to school in Cambridge, England. It was called the Perse School for Girls. Her friends knew her as Nicky Townley back then. After school, she trained to be a nurse. She studied at Guy's Hospital in London. Later, she moved to Dublin, Ireland. There, she took a course to become a model.

Music and Writing Beginnings

Nicola lived in West Africa for five years. While there, she studied drama. She also played the flute in a music group. When she returned to Ireland, she continued her flute studies. She learned at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In 1975, she moved to County Wicklow. She kept playing the flute with different orchestras. Around this time, she also wrote and drew pictures for her first children's book. It was called Batty Cat and was published later.

Becoming a Published Author

In 1994, Nicola started writing more seriously. She has had five novels published. Some of their names are A Place for Unicorns and Diving through Clouds. She also published two illustrated children's books. These were Batty Cat and My Magic Place. A collection of her poetry called Lines of Thought is also available. Many of her novels can now be found on Amazon Kindle Books. Four of these books are about paranormal themes.

Acting and Broadcasting

Nicola often records her own work for RTÉ 1 radio. She has read her short stories and talked about her work. She has visited many places, including schools and libraries. In 2008, Nicola returned to serious acting. She played a character named Ana in a play. This play was called The Clean House.

Her novel, Diving Through Clouds, has been published in the United States. It was also featured in Reader's Digest Select Editions in several countries. Her book A Place for Unicorns was also published in Germany.

Nicola used to host an Arts show on East Coast Radio. She has written and recorded many scripts for the Sunday Miscellany programme on RTE Radio One. She has also read her work on other radio shows. Nicola has been interviewed on the BBC, RTE 1, and TV3. For several years, she has performed her own one-woman show.

In 2007, Nicola finished a screenwriting course. Now, she writes for both the theatre and movies. Her monologues (long speeches by one person) have been performed. They have been on radio and stage. Nicola wrote her first full-length play. It was called Christmas Fairy Tells All. This show was performed in Dublin in 2010. In 2011, she joined the cast of Fair City. This is a popular Irish TV show. She played the part of Grace Cleary.

After a period of cancer treatment, Nicola returned to work in 2013. She had even more energy and excitement. In 2017, she worked with artist Naomi Peppard. They created a children's book together. It is called The Song of the Ha-Ha Bird.

Nicola is a member of several important groups. These include Irish Actors' Equity and the Irish Writers' Union. She has three adult daughters. Nicola lives in County Kildare, Ireland, with her husband, Charles Dudley.
