Nikolaj Arcel (born August 25, 1972) is a talented filmmaker and writer from Denmark. He is well-known for directing and writing movies. His film A Royal Affair was a big success. It won two awards at the Berlin International Film Festival. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He also directed the American movie The Dark Tower in 2017.

Early Life and Education
Nikolaj Arcel was born and grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark. His mother, Libby Tata Arcel, is a psychologist. His father, Arne Arcel, is an architect. Nikolaj has an older sister named Nastja Arcel, who is an actress.
He went to the National Film School of Denmark. He graduated from there in 2001. His final project, a short film called Woyzeck's Last Symphony, won a major award. It received the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
Film Career Highlights
Nikolaj Arcel started his career in 2004. His first movie was a political thriller called King's Game. This film earned him the award for Best Director at the Danish Film Academy Awards.
He then directed an adventure film, Island of Lost Souls, in 2007. In 2010, he directed a comedy called Truth About Men.
International Success
Nikolaj Arcel gained international attention with his 2012 film, A Royal Affair. After this success, he moved to Hollywood. There, he worked on bigger film projects.
He directed the movie The Dark Tower. This film was based on a famous book series by Stephen King. Filming for The Dark Tower started in early 2016. The movie was released in theaters on August 4, 2017.
