Hunted is the ninth season of the popular animated TV show Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. This season first aired from August 11 to August 25, 2018. It follows the story from the previous season, Sons of Garmadon, and sets up the next one, March of the Oni.

The story of Hunted is split into two main parts happening at the same time. One part follows the ninja Kai, Cole, Jay, Zane, and a young Wu. They are stuck in a dangerous new place called the Realm of Oni and Dragons. The other part focuses on Lloyd Garmadon and his friends trying to survive in Ninjago City. Both groups are being chased by powerful enemies. In the Realm of Oni and Dragons, the ninja face Iron Baron and his Dragon Hunters. In Ninjago City, Lloyd and his allies are hunted by Lord Garmadon, who is now called "Emperor Garmadon," and his group, the Sons of Garmadon. This season also shows Wu quickly growing from a child into a young man. The season ends with a big fight between Lord Garmadon and Lloyd.

The Lego Group released a special trailer for the season on May 27, 2018, on their YouTube channel. The episodes were shown on Cartoon Network in three parts: August 11, August 18, and August 25, 2018.

Storyline Summary

With Emperor Garmadon now in charge of Ninjago City, Lloyd, Nya, and their friends have to hide. Lloyd feels lost because he's lost his powers and his friends. But then, Mistaké tells him that the other ninja are still alive, which gives him hope.

Lloyd, Nya, and other Elemental Masters form a group to fight against Lord Garmadon. They sneak into Borg Tower, and Lloyd sends a message of hope to everyone in Ninjago. Garmadon's Sons of Garmadon attack their secret hideout, but Lloyd, Nya, Skylor, and Dareth manage to get away safely.

Meanwhile, the other four ninja (Kai, Jay, Zane, and Cole) and Wu (who is now a child and quickly growing into a teenager) are trying to survive in the Realm of Oni and Dragons. Kai, Jay, and Zane are caught by Iron Baron and his Dragon Hunters. They are forced to fight in a dangerous arena called the Dragon Pit. Cole and Wu plan to help their friends escape. They succeed when Firstbourne, the Mother of all Dragons, attacks the camp. During the chaos, Kai frees the dragons that were trapped.

In the wild, the ninja meet a brave dragon hunter named Faith. She tells them that the First Spinjitzu Master had a special connection with Firstbourne because of his Dragon Armour. Wu, Faith, and the ninja decide to find Firstbourne's nest. On their journey, Faith teaches the ninja how to use special chain rifles to take down big dragons.

Back in Ninjago City, Lloyd learns that Mistaké can change her shape because she is an Oni. They plan to defeat the Sons of Garmadon and capture Harumi. Mistaké pretends to be Harumi to get Skylor close to Garmadon so Skylor can take his powers. But Harumi shows up at Borg Tower at the same time Mistaké is pretending to be her. Mistaké then shows her true Oni form and fights Garmadon. During the fight, Skylor takes Garmadon's power and escapes, but Mistaké is sadly defeated. Skylor tries to control Garmadon's giant Colossus using his power, but it makes her sick. The Colossus falls onto a building, which collapses and defeats Harumi. Lloyd and Nya then escape the city.

In the First Realm, the ninja are hunted down and caught again. Wu promises to lead Iron Baron to the Dragon Armour. When they reach Firstbourne's nest, Iron Baron grabs the armour. But Wu reveals that it wasn't the armour that made Firstbourne trust his father, but the kindness in his heart. Firstbourne traps Iron Baron in hot rock, allowing Wu to take the armour. With Firstbourne's help, the Ninja and Wu are able to ride dragons back to Ninjago.

Lloyd and the ninja are finally back together in Ninjago City. They plan a final battle with Garmadon. Wu and Lloyd fly to Borg Tower on Firstbourne to face Garmadon. At the same time, the ninja try to take down the Colossus using their chain rifles. They succeed with the help of the citizens of Ninjago. Lloyd fights his father at the top of Borg Tower. He realizes that fighting Garmadon only makes him stronger. So, Lloyd learns to resist him instead of fighting back. This makes Garmadon's powers weaker, and Lloyd's elemental power returns. Ninjago is finally free from Garmadon's rule! But before Garmadon is arrested, he warns Lloyd that a new, even bigger threat is coming.
