Nipe Bay (pronounced "NEE-peh") is a large bay located on the northern coast of Cuba. It's found in the Holguín Province, which used to be part of a bigger area called Oriente Province. This important bay touches two towns: Mayarí and Antilla.

A Miraculous Discovery
According to Roman Catholic tradition, something special happened in Nipe Bay around the year 1600. People believe that a statue of Our Lady of Charity was found here. She is considered the Patroness of Cuba, a very important figure for many Cubans.
The Battle of Nipe Bay
Nipe Bay was also the site of a naval battle during the Spanish–American War. This fight, known as the Battle of Nipe Bay, happened on July 21, 1898. It was an important moment in that war.
Birthplace of a Leader
A famous Cuban leader, Fidel Castro, was born near Nipe Bay. He was born in a place called Birán in 1926.
