Nippes is one of the ten departments of Haiti. It's like a big region or province within the country. The name 'Nippes' is also sometimes called Nip in Haitian Creole.
This department is the newest and smallest in Haiti. It was created in 2003 from the eastern part of the Grand'Anse Department. About 266,379 people lived there in 2003. The main city and capital of Nippes is Miragoâne.
Nippes covers an area of 1,219 square kilometers. To the south, it shares a border with the Sud Department. To the east, it's next to the Ouest Department. On its western side, you'll find the Grand'Anse Department. To the north, Nippes meets the Gonâve Channel, which is the southern part of the Gulf of Gonâve.
