Nirra Fields (born December 3, 1993) is a Canadian professional basketball player. She plays as a point guard for İzmit Belediyespor in the Women's Basketball Super League. Before becoming a pro, she played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins. After a great college career, Nirra was chosen by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2016 WNBA draft. She was the thirty-second player picked overall.
Nirra also proudly plays for the Canada women's national basketball team. She has represented Canada in big international tournaments, including the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women.

Nirra Fields' Early Basketball Journey
High School Years and Achievements
Nirra Fields started her high school basketball journey in 2007 in Montreal, Canada. She attended a few different schools, including Lakeside Academy and Lower Canada College. She also spent time at Regina High School in Ohio and Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. At Oak Hill, she was amazing, scoring about 26.5 points per game!
For her final year of high school, Nirra moved to Mater Dei High School in California. Even though she was only there for one year, she made a huge impact. She averaged over 22 points per game, helping her team achieve an impressive 34 wins and only 3 losses. They even won a state championship! Mater Dei honored her by retiring her jersey, which is a very special recognition. Nirra also became the first Canadian female player to be named a McDonald's All-American. This meant she was one of the best high school players in the country.

Representing Her Country in Youth Tournaments
Nirra Fields has been a key player for Canada's national basketball teams since she was young. In 2010, she played in the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship for Women in France. She was a top scorer, averaging 22.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. She even scored 30 points against France and 36 against Japan! The next year, she played in the 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship for Women in Chile. She helped her team finish fifth, with a strong record of 8 wins and 1 loss.
Joining the Senior National Team
In 2014, Nirra joined the senior Canada women's national basketball team. She played in the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey. Her team finished fifth overall, winning 4 out of 7 games. Nirra contributed with an average of 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.
Winning Gold at the Pan American Games
Nirra was also part of the Canadian team that played in the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada. This was a huge event for Canada, as they were the host country.
The Canadian team started strong, easily beating Venezuela and Argentina. Their final preliminary game was a close one against Cuba, but Canada won 71–68. This meant they won their group and moved on to the semifinals.
In the semifinal game against Brazil, Canada played incredibly well. They took an early lead and kept building on it. By the end of the third quarter, they were up by a lot! Canada continued to dominate and won the game 91–63, earning a spot in the gold-medal game.
The gold-medal game was against the USA, and the arena was packed with cheering Canadian fans. The game was exciting! The USA got an early lead, but Canada fought back and tied the game by halftime. In the third quarter, Canada really shined, outscoring the US by 26 to 15 points. They even led by as much as 18 points! The USA tried to catch up, but Canada held on to win 81–73. This was Canada's first-ever gold medal in basketball at the Pan Am Games! Nirra contributed 9 points and led the team with 7 rebounds in this historic win.
