Nirra Fields, born on December 3, 1993, is a talented Canadian professional basketball player. She currently plays for İzmit Belediyespor in the Women's Basketball Super League. Before becoming a pro, Nirra played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins. After a great time with the Bruins, Fields was chosen as the thirty-second pick in the 2016 WNBA draft by the Phoenix Mercury.
Nirra also plays for the Canadian national team. She has represented her country in big international tournaments, like the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women.

Nirra Fields' High School Journey
Nirra Fields started her high school basketball journey in 2007. She attended several schools, including Lakeside Academy in Montreal and Lower Canada College. She also spent a year at Regina High School in South Euclid, Ohio.
Playing for Oak Hill Academy
During her junior year, Nirra played at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. She was an amazing scorer, averaging 26.5 points in each game. This showed how skilled she was on the court.
Mater Dei High School and Special Honors
For her senior year, Nirra moved to Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. Even though she only played there for one year, she made a huge impact. The school even retired her jersey, which is a very special honor! She averaged over 22 points per game, helping her team achieve an impressive 34–3 record. They also won a state championship.
Nirra was named a McDonald's All-American. This meant she was one of the best high school players in the country. She was the first Canadian girl to receive this honor, which was a big deal for Canadian basketball.
Nirra Fields' National Team Career
Nirra Fields has proudly represented Canada in basketball at different levels. She started with youth teams and then moved on to the senior national team.
Youth National Team Experience
Nirra played for Canada in the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship for Women in France. She was a top scorer, averaging 22.4 points per game. She even scored 30 points against France and 36 points against Japan! The next year, she played in the 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship for Women in Chile. She averaged 15.9 points per game and helped her team finish fifth with a strong 8–1 record.
Senior National Team Achievements
In 2014, Nirra joined the senior national team for the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey. She helped the team finish fifth, showing her skills on the world stage.
Winning Gold at the Pan American Games
Nirra represented Canada in basketball at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada. The Canadian team played incredibly well, winning all their preliminary games. They then beat Brazil in the semifinal, earning a spot in the gold-medal game against the USA.
The gold-medal game was exciting, with a sold-out crowd cheering for Canada. Canada won the game 81–73, earning their first gold medal in basketball at the Pan Am Games! Nirra contributed nine points and led the team with seven rebounds in this historic win.
FIBA Women's AmeriCup Medals
Nirra also helped Canada win a gold medal at the 2017 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in Buenos Aires. More recently, in 2023, she was part of the team that won a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in León. These medals show her continued success with the national team.
