Nityanand Rai (born on 1 January 1966) is an Indian politician. He is currently a Minister of State for Home Affairs in the Government of India. He was chosen by voters in the 2014 and 2019 General Elections. He represented the Ujiarpur area as a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party. Before becoming a Member of Parliament, he served as a representative for the Hajipur area in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He won elections there four times in a row, from 2000 until 2010.
Early Life and Schooling
Nityanand Rai was born on January 1, 1966. His father was a farmer. From a young age, Nityanand Rai was involved in student activities. He joined the ABVP, a student organization, in 1981. He also completed his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from Bihar University.
Political Journey
Nityanand Rai started his political career during his college days. He was elected as the president of his college's student union. In the year 2000, he ran for the Bihar Assembly election and won the seat for Hajipur. He continued to win this seat four times in a row.
In 2014, Nityanand Rai ran for the national Parliament. He won the election and became a Member of Parliament for the Ujiarpur area. In May 2019, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Home Affairs. He has been serving in this role since then.
Roles and Responsibilities
Nityanand Rai has held several important positions throughout his political career:
- He was a Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2000, February 2005, October 2005, and 2010.
- He became a Member of Parliament for the Ujiarpur area in 2014 and 2019.
- From September 2014 to August 2018, he was a member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture.
- From September 2018 to May 2019, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Commerce.
- In May 2015, he was part of the Joint Committee on Land Acquisitions, Rehabilitation, and Right to get appropriate compensation for relocation and transparency (second amendments) Bill 2015.
