Kiren Rijiju, born on November 19, 1971, is an important Indian politician. He currently serves as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and the Minister of Minority Affairs. These roles mean he helps manage how laws are made and supports minority groups in India.
Before this, he held several other big jobs in the Indian government. He was the Minister of Earth Sciences and Food Processing Industries from 2023 to June 2024. He also served as the Law Minister from 2021 to 2023.
Mr. Rijiju has been a Member of Parliament (MP) for Arunachal West. He was an MP from 2004 to 2009 and again from 2014 until now. An MP is someone elected by people to represent them in the Lok Sabha, which is like one of the main decision-making groups in India.
Early Life and Background
Kiren Rijiju was born on November 19, 1971. His birthplace was a village called Nakhu, near Nafra town. This area is in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, India.
He comes from a Buddhist family. His father, Rinchin Kharu, was a very important person. He was the first temporary speaker of the first Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Education and Studies
Kiren Rijiju studied at Hansraj College in the University of Delhi. There, he earned his graduation degree, which is a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).
Later, in 1998, he continued his studies in law. He received his law degree (LL.B) from the Campus Law Centre. This is part of the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.
Political Journey
Kiren Rijiju has been elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) four times. He represents Arunachal West in the Lok Sabha. His terms as MP were from 2004 to 2009, and then from 2014, 2019, and 2024 onwards.
He has held many important positions in the government. He was the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports. He also served as the Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Minister of State for Home Affairs. From 2021 to 2023, he was the Law Minister.
In May 2023, he was given the job of Minister of Earth Sciences. Then, in June 2024, he became the Union Cabinet Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs. He is one of three Buddhist MPs in the current 18th Lok Sabha.
Personal Life
Kiren Rijiju married Joram Rina Rijiju in 2004. His wife is also highly educated. She graduated from Lady Shri Ram College for Women in New Delhi.
She also won a gold medal from Arunachal University. Today, she works as an Associate Professor. She teaches history at Dera Natung Government College in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
