Gangapuram Kishan Reddy (born 15 June 1960) is an Indian politician. He is currently the Union Minister of Coal and Union Minister of Mines since 2024. Before this, he served as the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Development of North Eastern Region for the Government of India from 2019 to 2024.
He has been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 1980. He is also a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Secunderabad (Lok Sabha constituency) area since 2019. He was the first state president of the BJP in Telangana from 2014 to 2016, and was again appointed to this role on 4 July 2023.

About G. Kishan Reddy
Gangapuram Kishan Reddy was born on 15 June 1960. His birthplace was Timmapur village in the Rangareddy district of Telangana. His parents are G. Swamy Reddy and Andalamma. He is married to Kavya Reddy, and they have two children.
He studied tool design and earned a diploma from the CITD.
Early Political Journey
Reddy began his political journey as a youth leader in the Janata Party in 1977. When the BJP was formed in 1980, he joined it full-time. He quickly took on important roles within the party's youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
- From 1986 to 1990, he was the State President of the BJYM in Andhra Pradesh.
- He then served as the National Secretary and National Vice President of the BJYM.
- From 1994 to 2001, he was the National General Secretary of the BJYM.
- From 2002 to 2004, he became the National President of the BJYM. This was a very important role for a youth leader.
After his time with the youth wing, he took on roles within the main BJP party. He was the State General Secretary and official spokesperson for the BJP in Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2005.
Rising in State Politics
Member of Legislative Assembly
From 2004 to 2009, G. Kishan Reddy served as a MLA for the Himayatnagar area. During this time, he was also the Floor Leader for the BJP in the State Assembly. This meant he led the BJP members in the assembly.
In 2009, he was elected as an MLA for the Amberpet Assembly Constituency. He won with a large number of votes. He continued to be the BJP's Floor Leader in the State Assembly until 2014.
State BJP President
From 2010 to 2014, Reddy was the State President of the BJP in Andhra Pradesh. When Telangana became a separate state, he was chosen as the first State President of the BJP in Telangana from 2014 to 2016.
In 2012, he led a 22-day journey called the "Telangana Poru Yatra." He traveled about 3,500 kilometers through many villages to highlight the need for a separate Telangana state.
Becoming a Union Minister
In 2019, G. Kishan Reddy was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Secunderabad area. He was re-elected in 2024.
Minister of State
On 30 May 2019, he became a Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs. He served in this role until 2021. As a Minister of State, he worked alongside other senior ministers.
He also worked to improve public transport. For example, he asked the Chief Minister of Telangana to restart local train services in Hyderabad.
Union Cabinet Minister
From 2021 to 2024, G. Kishan Reddy held several important roles as a Union Cabinet Minister:
- Minister of Tourism
- Minister of Culture
- Minister of Development of North Eastern Region
In 2024, he took on new responsibilities:
- Minister of Coal
- Minister of Mines
He is now in charge of these important ministries in the Third Modi ministry.
Return to State Leadership
On 5 July 2023, G. Kishan Reddy was again appointed as the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Telangana. He took over this role from Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
