Gangapuram Kishan Reddy (born on June 15, 1960) is an Indian politician. He is currently serving as the Union Minister of Coal and Union Minister of Mines since June 2024. Before this, he was the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Development of North Eastern Region for the Government of India from 2019 to 2024.
He has been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 1980. He is a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Secunderabad area, a role he has held since 2019. He also served as the leader of the BJP in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 2009. He was the first state president of the BJP in Telangana from 2014 to 2016 and was again appointed to this role on July 4, 2023.

About His Life and Education
Gangapuram Kishan Reddy was born in Timmapur village in the Rangareddy district of Telangana. His parents are G. Swamy Reddy and Andalamma. He is married to Kavya Reddy, and they have two children, a daughter and a son.
He studied tool design and earned a diploma from the CITD.
His Early Steps in Politics
Reddy began his political journey as a youth leader with the Janata Party in 1977. When the BJP was formed in 1980, he joined it full-time. He quickly became involved in the youth wing of the BJP, known as the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
He held various important positions in the BJYM, including:
- State Treasurer for Andhra Pradesh (1982-1983)
- State President for Andhra Pradesh (1986-1990)
- National Secretary and in-charge for South India (1990-1992)
- National Vice President (1992-1994)
- National General Secretary (1994-2001)
- National President of the BJYM (2002-2004)
After his time in the youth wing, he became the State General Secretary and official spokesperson for the BJP in Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2005.

His Rise in State Politics
Member of Legislative Assembly and Floor Leader
From 2004 to 2009, G. Kishan Reddy served as a MLA for the Himayatnagar area. During this time, he was also the Floor Leader for the BJP in the State Assembly. This means he was the main spokesperson for his party in the assembly.
In 2009, the Himayatnagar constituency changed, and Reddy then ran for election in the Amberpet Assembly Constituency. He won this election with a large number of votes. He continued to serve as an MLA for Amberpet and as the BJP's Floor Leader in the State Assembly until 2014.
President of State BJP
From 2010 to 2014, Reddy was the BJP State President for Andhra Pradesh. When the state of Telangana was formed, he was chosen as the very first Telangana BJP president, serving from 2014 to 2016.
In 2012, he led a 22-day journey called the "Telangana Poru Yatra." This journey covered about 3500 kilometers through many villages and assembly areas. Its purpose was to highlight the need for a clear decision on the formation of Telangana state.
Becoming a Union Minister
He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Secunderabad area in both the 2019 and 2024 general elections.
Minister of State
On May 30, 2019, he became a Union Minister of State for Home Affairs in the Government of India. He held this position until July 2021, working alongside another minister, Nityanand Rai.
During this time, he also wrote to the Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao, asking for local train services (MMTS) to restart in the city. This was due to the high demand for public transport.

Return to State Politics
On July 5, 2023, G. Kishan Reddy was again appointed as the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Telangana. He took over from Bandi Sanjay Kumar. This change happened after some discussions within the party.
