Where the Nomans River Flows

The Nomans River is surrounded by other rivers and lakes. Here are some of the main ones nearby:

The Source of the Nomans River

The Nomans River starts where two small mountain streams meet. This starting point is located:

  • About 4.9 kilometres (3.0 mi) north of a bend in the Waswanipi River.
  • About 28.8 kilometres (17.9 mi) southeast of where the Nomans River joins the Inconnue River.
  • About 6.6 kilometres (4.1 mi) northeast of Goéland Lake.
  • About 71.4 kilometres (44.4 mi) southeast of Matagami Lake.
  • About 236 kilometres (147 mi) southeast of the mouth of the Nottaway River.
  • About 73.2 kilometres (45.5 mi) northeast of the town of Matagami.

The River's Journey

From its source, the Nomans River flows for about 42.7 kilometres (26.5 mi). Here is how it flows:

  • For 8.1 kilometres (5.0 mi), it flows northeast. It makes a big curve to the west around a mountain. Then it reaches a small stream coming from the north.
  • For 6.6 kilometres (4.1 mi), it flows northeast through a marshy area. At the end of this part, it meets a stream coming from the south.
  • For 12.4 kilometres (7.7 mi), it flows northeast, starting in a marshy area. It then reaches the southern border of the Montseignat area.
  • For 15.6 kilometres (9.7 mi), it flows through the Montseignat area. It goes northeast through more marshy areas, then turns east until it reaches its end.

The Nomans River flows into the west side of the Inconnue River. The Inconnue River then flows north into the Maicasagi River. The Maicasagi River flows west into Maicasagi Lake. From there, the water goes southwest through the Max Passage into Goéland Lake. The Waswanipi River flows through Goéland Lake and then into Matagami Lake.

Where the Nomans River Ends

The Nomans River ends at these locations:

  • About 5.0 kilometres (3.1 mi) northeast of where the Inconnue River joins the Maicasagi River.
  • About 19.8 kilometres (12.3 mi) east of the mouth of the Maicasagi River.
  • About 45.8 kilometres (28.5 mi) northeast of the mouth of Goéland Lake.
  • About 65.1 kilometres (40.5 mi) northeast of the mouth of Olga Lake.
  • About 36.3 kilometres (22.6 mi) northwest of the village of Waswanipi.
  • About 98 kilometres (61 mi) northeast of downtown Matagami.
