Where the River Flows
The Caupichigau River is surrounded by other important water bodies. Knowing these helps us understand its journey.
- To the North: You'll find Caupichigau Lake and Omo Lake. The Omo River is also nearby.
- To the East: The Mildred River and La Trêve Lake are located here.
- To the South: The La Trêve River and Inconnue Lake are in this direction.
- To the West: The Maicasagi River and more of the La Trêve River are found here.
River's Beginning
The Caupichigau River starts at Caupichigau Lake. This lake is about 15.4 kilometres (9.6 mi) long. It sits at an altitude of about 335 metres (1,099 ft) above sea level.
The lake's starting point is:
- About 24.7 kilometres (15.3 mi) south of the Assinica Wildlife Sanctuary.
- About 10.9 kilometres (6.8 mi) northeast of where the Caupichigau River joins the La Trêve River.
- About 147.6 kilometres (91.7 mi) northeast of the town of Matagami.
River's Journey
From Caupichigau Lake, the Caupichigau River flows for about 12.8 kilometres (8.0 mi). It generally moves towards the southwest.
The river eventually flows into the La Trêve River. From there, the water continues its journey. It flows northwest to the Maicasagi River. Then, the current goes westward to Maicasagi Lake.
After that, the water moves southwest through the Max Passage. It then enters Goéland Lake. The Waswanipi River flows through Goéland Lake. This river then leads to Matagami Lake.
River's End Point
The place where the Caupichigau River joins the La Trêve River is located:
- About 13.0 kilometres (8.1 mi) southeast of where the La Trêve River meets the Maicasagi River.
- About 59.1 kilometres (36.7 mi) northeast of where the Maicasagi River flows into Maicasagi Lake.
- About 32.1 kilometres (19.9 mi) north of the village of Waswanipi.
- About 138.3 kilometres (85.9 mi) north of downtown Matagami.
