Norma is a popular chain of food stores known for offering products at low prices. These stores are often called "discount stores." You can find over 1,300 Norma stores across several countries, including Germany, France, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Sometimes, you might see stores named Norma-Rodi because Norma bought another company called Rodi.
About Norma Stores
The story of Norma began in 1921 with a family business called George Roth in Fürth, Germany. In the 1960s, the very first Norma store opened its doors in southern Germany. For many years, Norma was mainly a regional store chain. However, since the late 1980s, Norma has grown a lot and become an international company.
The company used to be owned by Manfred Georg Roth, who passed away in 2010. Now, two people, Gerd Köber and Robert Tjón, manage the company together. In 2011, the company's ownership structure changed to a foundation. This means it's now managed by a special organization set up to ensure the company continues its work.
What Norma Sells
Just like other big German discount supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl, Norma focuses on a simple idea. They offer a smaller selection of popular food items. By doing this, they can sell these products at very affordable prices. This helps families save money on their groceries.
