Norma Aleandro, born on May 2, 1936, is a famous actress from Argentina. Many people think she is one of the best and most active actresses ever from her home country. She is seen as a cultural hero there.

Aleandro starred in the 1985 film The Official Story. For this role, she won the Cannes Award for Best Actress. She has also acted in other successful movies like The Truce (1974), Cousins (1989), Autumn Sun (1996), The Lighthouse (1998), Son of the Bride (2001), and Cama Adentro (2005). For her acting in the 1987 film Gaby: A True Story, she was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Aleandro also wrote the 1970 film The Inheritors. She has performed in many plays, including August: Osage County. She also appeared in the Argentine TV show En terapia, which was very popular.

Norma Aleandro was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on May 2, 1936. Her parents, Pedro Aleandro and María Luisa Robledo, were also actors. Her sister, María Vaner, became an actress too.

In the late 1970s, Norma Aleandro spoke openly about her ideas. During a time when the military ruled Argentina, she had to leave the country. She first went to Uruguay, then moved to Spain. She did not return to Argentina until 1983, after the military government ended.

Major Film Roles and Awards

In 1985, Norma Aleandro had a very important role in the Argentine film The Official Story. This movie won an Academy Award. For her acting in this film, she won the Cannes Award for Best Actress.

She also worked in several other Argentine movies that were very well-known. These include the Academy Award-nominated Son of the Bride, Sol de Otoño (Autumn Sun), and El Faro (The Lighthouse).

Aleandro also acted in some Hollywood films. She co-starred with Anthony Hopkins in One Man's War. In 1987, she was in Gaby: A True Story, which earned her an Oscar nomination. She also had a smaller role in the movie Cousins (1989).

Back in Argentina, she returned to the theater with a play called Master Class. She won the María Guerrero award for her performance in 1996. In the same year, she was honored as an "Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires."

She has acted alongside fellow actor Héctor Alterio five times. They appeared together in Los siete Locos (1973), The Truce (1974), The Official Story (1985), Son of the Bride (2001), and Cleopatra (2003). In the last three films, they played a husband and wife.

In 2009, Aleandro appeared in The City of Your Final Destination. This movie was directed by James Ivory and also starred Anthony Hopkins, Laura Linney, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
