Norma Aleandro (born on May 2, 1936) is a very famous and important actress from Argentina. Many people think she is one of the best Argentine actresses ever. She is seen as a cultural icon in her home country.

Norma Aleandro starred in the 1985 movie The Official Story. For this role, she won the Cannes Award for best actress. She has also been in other popular movies like The Truce (1974), Cousins (1989), Autumn Sun (1996), The Lighthouse (1998), Son of the Bride (2001), and Cama Adentro (2005). For her acting in the 1987 movie Gaby: A True Story, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award (also known as an Oscar).

Aleandro also wrote the 1970 movie The Inheritors. She has performed in many plays, including August: Osage County. She also appeared in the Argentine version of the TV show BeTipul, which was called En terapia.

Norma Aleandro was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on May 2, 1936. Her parents, Pedro Aleandro and María Luisa Robledo, were also actors. Her sister, María Vaner, is an actress too.

In the late 1970s, Norma spoke openly about her beliefs. During a time when the military ruled Argentina, she had to leave the country. She first went to Uruguay and then moved to Spain. She did not return to Argentina until 1983, after the military government ended.

Becoming a Star

In 1985, Norma Aleandro got her most famous role in the movie The Official Story. This movie won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. For her amazing acting in this film, she won the Cannes Award for best actress.

She continued to work in many other Argentine movies. These include the Oscar-nominated Son of the Bride, Sol de Otoño, and El Faro.

Acting in Hollywood

Norma Aleandro also acted in some Hollywood movies. She co-starred with Anthony Hopkins in One Man's War. She also received an Oscar nomination for her role in Gaby: A True Story (1987). She had a smaller part in the movie Cousins (1989).

When she returned to Argentina, she performed on stage again in a play called Master Class. She won the María Guerrero award in 1996 for her performance. In the same year, she was honored as an "Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires."

She has acted alongside fellow actor Héctor Alterio five times. They were in Los siete Locos (1973), The Truce (1974), The Official Story (1985), Son of the Bride (2001), and Cleopatra (2003). In the last three movies, they played a married couple.

In 2009, Aleandro appeared in The City of Your Final Destination. This movie was directed by James Ivory and also starred Anthony Hopkins, Laura Linney, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
