Laura Leggett Linney (born February 5, 1964) is a famous American actress. She has won many important awards for her acting. These include two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards. She has also been nominated for three Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) and five Tony Awards (for theater).
Laura Linney started acting on Broadway in 1990. She later received Tony Award nominations for her work in plays like The Crucible and Time Stands Still. On television, she won her first Emmy for the film Wild Iris. She also won Emmys for the TV show Frasier and the miniseries John Adams. Laura Linney's Early Life and Education
Laura Linney was born in Manhattan, New York City. Her mother, Ann Perse, was a nurse. Her father, Romulus Zachariah Linney IV, was a playwright and a professor. Laura spent her summers with her father in New Hampshire. She fell in love with acting by working with a local theater group from age eleven. Her great-great-grandfather was a U.S. Congressman named Romulus Zachariah Linney. She also has a half-sister named Susan.
Laura graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School in 1982. This is a special preparatory school in New England. She then went to Northwestern University before moving to Brown University. At Brown, she studied acting and was part of the university's student theater group. In her last year at Brown, she acted in one of her father's plays. She played Lady Ada Lovelace in Childe Byron.
Linney finished Brown University in 1986. She then studied acting at the Juilliard School from 1986 to 1990. In 2003, Brown University gave her an honorary degree. Juilliard also gave her an honorary degree in 2009 when she gave their graduation speech.

Starting Out in the 1990s
Laura Linney began her career with small roles in movies in the early 1990s. These included Lorenzo's Oil (1992), Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993), and Dave (1993). In 1993, she starred as Mary Ann Singleton in the TV show Tales of the City. She played this role again in 1998 in More Tales of the City. In 1994, she was a guest star in an episode of Law & Order.
Throughout the 1990s, Linney performed a lot on Broadway and in other plays. She won an award for her role in Hedda Gabler in 1994. She also appeared in a play called Holiday.
