Norman Guy Von Nida (born February 14, 1914 – died May 20, 2007) was a famous Australian professional golfer. He was known as one of Australia's best golfers. He was also the first Australian to win many golf tournaments in Britain.
Norman Von Nida was born in Strathfield, Australia. He grew up in Brisbane. He became a professional golfer in 1933. This was after he won the Queensland Amateur tournament in 1932, when he was just 18 years old.
He became one of Australia's top professional golfers. He was the first Australian to win regularly on the British golf tour. However, World War II stopped him from playing during what might have been his best years.
In 1946, he traveled to Britain for the first time. He finished second on the golf rankings there. In 1947, he went back and won seven tournaments. He also topped the "Order of Merit," which means he was the best player that year based on his winnings.
Norman Von Nida was known for being very passionate about his game. He sometimes showed his frustration on the course. In 1985, he received the Medal of the Order of Australia. This award was given to him for his great "service to the sport of golf."
Today, the junior golf tour in Australia is named the Von Nida Tour after him. This tour helps young golfers develop their skills. Norman Von Nida passed away in a nursing home in Gold Coast, Queensland, when he was 93 years old.
